Kerama Islands in breve
The Kerama Islands lie 30–40 km west of Naha on Okinawa's main island and form Kerama Shoto National Park, designated in 2014. Most of the park is sea; the clear water is known as 'Kerama blue' and the coral reefs are visited for snorkelling and diving. Snorkelling boats leave Tomari Port in Naha for the reefs around Tokashiki and Zamami. Humpback whales gather around the islands between December and April, and whale-watching boats leave from Zamami Port. The uninhabited islets off Zamami and Aka (Agenashiku, Gahi) are visited by private boat.
