Soufrière and the Pitons in breve
Boat trips in Saint Lucia run along the island's sheltered west coast between Rodney Bay in the north and Soufrière in the south. Soufrière bay is framed by the volcanic peaks of Gros Piton (798 m) and Petit Piton (743 m); the Pitons Management Area was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. The coastline lies within the Soufrière Marine Management Area (SMMA), where fees and permits apply to moorings, snorkelling and diving. Day catamarans call at Marigot Bay on the way, land at the Soufrière jetty for a shore programme (Sulphur Springs, waterfalls) and stop to snorkel on the way back.
