Ilha Grande نبذة
Ilha Grande is a large island on the Costa Verde of Rio de Janeiro state, part of the municipality of Angra dos Reis and closed to motor traffic. Most of it lies within Ilha Grande State Park, and boat trips leave from the main village, Vila do Abraão. The classic route goes to Lagoa Azul on the north coast (shallow clear water between Ilha dos Macacos and the island) and the historic village of Freguesia de Santana; the other common route takes a boat to Praia do Pouso and a short trail to Lopes Mendes beach. Boats from Angra dos Reis visit the small islands of the bay and the northern coves of Ilha Grande. Since 2026 Angra dos Reis has been phasing in a municipal tourism tax for visitors to the island.
