Bridgetown and the West Coast en bref
Boat trips in Barbados run along the calm west coast between Bridgetown and Speightstown. Carlisle Bay off Bridgetown is a marine park; several wrecks lying in shallow water can be seen with a snorkel, and green and hawksbill turtles are often seen around them. In the Folkestone Marine Reserve at Holetown, the Stavronikita, sunk as an artificial reef in 1978, is a deep dive site, while snorkellers use the inshore reef. Fishing and collecting marine life are prohibited in the reserve. Catamarans mostly leave from the Shallow Draught harbour in Bridgetown, and private boats also from Port St. Charles.
