Piran and Portorož en bref
Piran, at the tip of Slovenia's short Adriatic coast, is known for its Venetian-era old town and Tartini Square, while neighbouring Portorož has a large marina. Between Piran and Izola, the Strunjan Landscape Park, with flysch cliffs up to 80 m high and a protected 200 m sea belt beneath them, is Slovenia's largest marine protected area. A resident bottlenose dolphin population lives in the Gulf of Trieste and has been studied since 2002. Distances are short; coastal cruises, dolphin watching and sunset trips are concentrated in the summer months.
