Zanzibar is the main island off the Tanzanian coast, and its boat trips are made on traditional dhows. The waters around Mnemba atoll in the north-east are the island's main snorkelling spot. In the south-west, Safari Blue trips from Fumba call at a sandbank in Menai Bay, Kwale island and a mangrove lagoon. Prison Island (Changuu) off Stone Town is home to giant tortoises. Sunset dhow sailings run from Nungwi and Kendwa. The long rains fall from March to May.
