Aeolian Islands about

The Aeolian Islands are seven volcanic islands north of Sicily, listed by UNESCO. Boats from Milazzo and Lipari go to the mud and sulphur shore of Vulcano, the islets off Panarea and Stromboli, an active volcano. Evening sailings to the Sciara del Fuoco on Stromboli's north-west flank are timed to watch eruptions from the sea; landing and summit rules depend on the authorities. Lipari's pumice and obsidian shores are a classic stop.
