Madeira about

Madeira is a volcanic island in the Atlantic, and boats from Funchal watch whales and dolphins all year, with the species seen changing by season. Routes heading west pass the high cliff of Cabo Girão from the sea. The Desertas islands to the south-east are a nature reserve and home to the Mediterranean monk seal; landing requires a permit. Departures are from Funchal, Calheta and Machico.
