Stockholm Archipelago about

East of Stockholm, an archipelago of tens of thousands of islands and skerries stretches towards the Baltic Sea. Archipelago boats from the central Strömkajen and Nybrokajen quays serve islands such as Vaxholm, Grinda and Sandhamn; the trip to Vaxholm takes about an hour. For the outer islands, especially Sandhamn, a short boat link from the port of Stavsnäs is also used. Some lines run all year, but departures increase markedly in summer. Most of the islands have little or no car traffic and are explored on short footpaths.
