Overview
At Eğil, about 52 kilometres from Diyarbakır, short lake tours run on the Tigris (Dicle) Dam Lake. Boats leave from below the rock on which Eğil Castle stands, and from the water you see the castle walls, the Assyrian royal tombs cut into the rock and the hillside with the tombs of the prophets. To protect this drinking-water basin, fossil-fuel boats have been banned on the lake since 2022, and 12-seat solar-powered electric boats entered service in 2024. Tea gardens and restaurants line the shore.
