Overview
Kerala State Water Transport Department's (SWTD) two-deck sightseeing boat departs from Alappuzha jetty and sails from Punnamada Lake to Vembanad Lake. The route passes by Muhamma, Pathiramanal Island, Kumarakom, and the R-Block rice fields of Kuttanad before returning to Alappuzha; a short stop is made at Pathiramanal. This is the cheapest way to see the backwaters without hiring a houseboat. The daytime tour is approximately 5 hours; SWTD also operates a 2-hour sunset cruise on Punnamada. Times and prices may vary, please confirm at the jetty or with SWTD.
