About this tour
The state Water Transport Department (SWTD) runs a double-decker sightseeing boat from the Alappuzha jetty across Punnamada Lake onto Vembanad Lake. The route passes Muhamma, Pathiramanal Island, Kumarakom and Kuttanad paddy blocks such as R-Block before returning to Alappuzha, with a short stop on Pathiramanal. It is the cheapest way to see the backwaters without hiring a houseboat. The day trip takes about 5 hours; SWTD also runs a two-hour sunset run on Punnamada. Times and fares change and should be confirmed at the jetty or with SWTD.
