Overview
Kapıkırı village, at the foot of the Beşparmak (Latmos) mountains, is built among the ruins of ancient Herakleia. The lake trip is made in local fishermen's motor boats that carry 8 to 12 people. The boat first passes around Kapıkırı Island, just off the village, with remains of walls. It then views Menet Island from the water, since landing is avoided to protect nesting birds, and visits Kahvesar Island with its Byzantine monastery ruins. The trip ends with a swim at the Twin Islands, which have monastery and fortress remains. Being short, it fits easily into a day of exploring Herakleia.
