Overview
The classic caldera route. The boat leaves Vlychada and lands on Nea Kameni in the middle of the caldera, where an hour's walk up the crater path passes lava fields and steam vents. Next comes Palea Kameni, where you jump from the boat and swim into the warm cove tinted red by iron oxide. In the afternoon there is a lunch stop at Korfos harbour on Thirassia, the island on the far side of the caldera, and on the way back the cliff-top houses of Oia and Fira are seen from the sea.
