Overview
The boat leaves Granville Island, passes Point Atkinson out of English Bay, crosses the Strait of Georgia and heads for wherever whales are reported that day, most often around the Gulf Islands and Active Pass. Killer whales, humpbacks, harbour seals and Steller sea lions are the species most often seen; the route changes daily with sighting reports. Open zodiacs are fast and wet, covered boats more comfortable. In Canada boats follow legal approach distances; under the 2026 order vessels may not come within 1,000 metres of Southern Resident killer whales. The trip takes about 4–5 hours.
