Overview
From July to October licensed boats leave Neiafu to look for humpback whales among the Vava'u islands. When a suitable, settled whale is found, small groups enter the water with a guide; the rules allow no more than four swimmers plus a guide at a time. No diving down on mothers and calves, and whales are not chased. On days without whales the route may be filled with caves or snorkel spots.
