Overview
Lake Hazar is a tectonic lake lying 1,248 metres above sea level and reaching 216 metres in depth. Boat tours start from the Sivrice shore. Boats pass over the Sunken Settlement on the south shore, an old settlement of about 2.5 square kilometres now under water, where some remains can be seen from the surface when the water is clear. The route also circles Church Island, named after a monastery said to have stood on the highest part of the settlement, and Pigeon Island. Tours run on boats belonging to lakeside facilities or on cheaper municipal boats.
