Gaziantep about
On the Gaziantep side, Euphrates boat trips leave from Rumkale harbour in Kasaba, a neighbourhood of Yavuzeli about 62 km from the city centre. The boat first approaches Rumkale, which stands on a rocky promontory where the Merzimen stream joins the Euphrates, giving a close view of its walls and the remains of its church and monastery. The route continues across to the sunken mosque of Savaşan and along the river to Halfeti, with a short stop at one end. On shared boats the trip lasts about two hours. As the interior of Rumkale is closed from time to time for safety and restoration work, seeing it from the water is a practical option.
